What am I: Bago de Touriga is an independent collaboration between two great Douro winemakers, Luis Soares Duarte and João Roseira. Luis Soares Duarte has worked on several projects in the Douro and is a well-known expert enologist in the region. João Roseira represents the current generation at Quinta do Infintado, an esteemed Douro producer of Port and dry table wine, which now offers several certified organic references. João is also the founder of Simplesmente Vinho, the most important wine fair in Portugal for small and low-intervention wine producers.
Bago de Touriga produces wine under the brand name Gouvyas, and the wines have become known for impressive freshness, the use of old, interesting grape varietals, and the discovery of special and old-vine vineyards.
Bago de Touriga Gouvyas Moscatel is made from Moscatel Galego, the primary cultivar of Moscatel which is found in the Douro River Valley and northern Portugal. The wine is dry, thirst-quenching, and refreshing, with peach, nectarine, and other perfumed stone fruits. Moscatel provides an exotic perfume to this wine that is captivating – at once floral, musky and seductive. The palate is as clean and dry as they come, with a very distinct saline minerality that keeps you coming back for glass after glass.
