Description
What am I: Espera Castelão
Espera Wines is a small, family-run project on just 3 hectares, located in the Alcobaça region of Lisbon, a historic area with traditions that stem from the legacy left by the Cistercian monks.
This wine expresses the typical freshness and minerality of this region’s wines, and also the main characteristics of the Castelão grape variety. Made with a fine selection of the best Castelão, the parcel has an eastern exposition and clay-limestone soils.
Manually harvested in 15kg boxes. Grapes are destemmed, then followed by spontaneous fermentation in 1000Kg containers. Fermentation takes place without temperature control for 4 days, ending in stainless steel tanks. It is then aged in used French oak barrels (500 and 700L) for 12 months,
Espera Castelão red wine has a bright ruby color, has a fresh nose with notes of cherry alongside gunpowder and smoke, and well defined red fruit. This wine is elegant and intense on the palate, with a good body, and a vibrant long finish.
