Description
What am I: Espera Palheto
Espera Wines is a small, family-run project on just 3 hectares, located in the Alcobaça region of Lisbon, a historic area and with traditions that stem from the legacy left by the Cistercian monks.
This wine expresses the typical freshness and minerality of this region’s wines and is a representation of wines from medieval times. Made with a fine selection of the best Vital and Fernão Pires (old vineyards), Arinto, Bical, and Touriga Nacional grapes (bunch thinning), parcel with south-east exposition and clay-limestone soils.
After an early hand harvest (first week of September – Touriga Nacional: bunch thinning) to 15kg cases, all white varieties were fermented with skins, joining Touriga Nacional pressed bunches two days after fermentation began. Natural fermentation took place in old French oak barrels and stainless steel vats.
Espera Palheto red wine is light ruby in color, with a mineral character, cherry, pear, floral and spicy hints. It is elegant, intense, and fresh on the palate, with a pleasant finish.
