Description
What am I: Peluda Vinho Verde Branco
Peluda is located in the north of Portugal, in the Minho region. It is a multigenerational project, spearheaded by Mariana Pala, with support from her grandfather. Mariana represents a young generation of winemakers who hail from a traditional wine family. This combination creates a dynamic mix of tradition and fresh ideas.
With 17 hectares of vineyards located in Mondim de Basto, Mariana aims to make wines in the spirit of Minho and Vinho Verde. Basto is a hilly terrain with peaks up to 1,000 meters. It is largely cut off from the maritime influences of the Atlantic Ocean. There are cold and rainy winters and hot and dry summers. The Azal Branco grape loves this landscape and does not reach full ripeness until mid-September. Wine made from this grape scores high on the acidity scale yielding fresh wines with flavors of citrus and green apple.
Most of the vineyards used in making Peluda Vinho Verde Branco white wine are made up of granite and shale soil. In the wintertime, donkeys and horses graze and provide natural fertilization.
The bunches are de-stemmed and then immediately undergo a light pressing. Shortly after, the fermentation begins. Fermentation is temperature-controlled between 14 and 15 °C.
The wine is aged for 6 months in stainless steel tanks and is bottled unfiltered.
