Description
What am I: Penhó Verbum Trajadura
Penhó Wines are garagist wines produced from grapes grown at Quinta de Penhó. The Quinta is located Northern Portugal. The family vineyard is currently being converted to organic, and the wine is produced as naturally as possible. Using minimal intervention, they have created unique natural wines with very low sulfite levels.
Every wine is made with two days of maceration before pressing, fermented only using indigenous yeasts. After pressing they remain over the lees with no racking, or bâttonage. No filtration, stabilization, or clarification is carried out. No additional products are used to correct or alter the wine. Everything else varies from wine to wine, but Penhó takes pride in all of its wines. They strive to make them better every year, starting in the vineyard, with their care of the vines.
Verbum is a skin-contact white wine produced from the Arinto caste of grapes. Amber-colored, it is also referred to as a curtimenta or orange wine. It has a beautiful amber color, good structure, and a balance between acidity and alcohol levels.
Penhó Verbum Trajadura was produced by vinifying the white grapes the way red wine is normally produced, meaning that the must was fermented in contact with the grape skins and seeds and macerates for 6 to 7 months. This orange wine is aged for 6 to 12 months in used French oak barrels before being bottled.
