Description
What am I: Quinta do Olival da Murta / Serra Oca Tinto 2017
Quinta do Olival da Murta has been in the same family for over four generations. It is located about 80km from Lisbon, on the Serra Montejunto, near the medieval town of Obidos. Serra Oca wines are hand-harvested from vineyards where organic practices are used, and the wine is fashioned in the cellar with no chemical additions through spontaneous fermentation. The farm is also well known throughout the area for its herb growing programs, reforestation efforts, and whole-system approach to agriculture.
Total destemming without crushing, with fermentation in separate lagar with spontaneous yeasts. Completion of malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, with minimal addition of sulfur. This red wine was aged for 16 months, in 225-liter French oak barrels, and then aged in bottle for 6 months.
Serra Oca Tinto 2017 red wine is ruby in color, with an aroma of cherry, mint, and licorice. The palate has good intensity, with hints of balsamic, yet is still very fresh.
