What am I: Quinta do Olival da Murta / Serra Oca Tinta Roriz

Quinta do Olival da Murta has been in the same family for over four generations. It is located about 80km from Lisbon, on the Serra Montejunto, near the medieval town of Obidos. Serra Oca wines are hand-harvested from vineyards where organic practices are used, and the wine is fashioned in the cellar with no chemical additions through spontaneous fermentation. The farm is also well known throughout the area for its herb growing programs, reforestation efforts, and whole-system approach to agriculture.

Total destemming without crushing, with fermentation in separate lagar with spontaneous yeasts. Completion of malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats, with minimal addition of sulfur. This red wine was aged in used French oak barrels, and then aged in bottle for 6 months.

Serra Oca Tinta Roriz red wine shows the elegance and freshness of a more tannic grape when a light touch is used. This is a light red that is both playful and serious.
