Description
What am I: Quinta do Romeu Moinho do Gato Tinto
Quinta do Romeu has belonged to the Menéres family since 1874, and is currently in the hands of the 5th generation. The vineyards, olive groves, cork trees, and two streams coexist in Romeu intertwined in a natural way, forming a living mosaic.
They grow 25 hectares of vineyards that are the northernmost in the demarcated Douro region. Although with the robust character of the Douro, they have the elegance and freshness of this unique place.
Romeu has a great dedication to the quality of the grape and everything happens with minimal interference in the cellar. Red fermentations are made in granite presses, indigenous yeasts, reduced amounts of SO2 used, and wine ages in mostly used barrels. All agriculture at Quinta do Romeu is certified organic. In 2012 the farm was converted to biodynamics. In Romeu, nothing is flat- neither the landscape, nor the climate, nor the people… nor the aromas!
This wine is a blend of traditional Douro grapes varieties, mainly Tinta Barroca, but also Tinta Roriz, Tinto Cão, Touriga Franca, and Touriga Nacional from their own organic vineyards.
The profile leans towards red fruits with a floral touch. Very smooth on the palate, with balanced fresh acidity and soft tannins. Very pleasant fruity and fresh finish.
