Black Sheep Lisboa
Black Sheep opened in June of 2019 as an intimate wine bar with good music and a cozy vibe in an inviting space. Due to COVID restrictions, we are on a temporary break from pouring wines by the glass and open as a wine shop and private tasting space, but the original spirit lives on. Black Sheep is not just about Portuguese wine, or natural wine, or organic wine. It is a place to buy wine made by winemakers and grape growers that could be considered to be black sheep; people willing to do things their way, against the grain perhaps, but the way that they believe in, and the way that they think things ought to be made.
Our wine program is focused on Portuguese wines made by small, artisan producers. The wines we serve not only encompass the categories of natural, organic, biodynamic, and low intervention vineyard and winery practices, but they are also reflections of Portuguese terroir and the families who make them. The natural wine movement is more based in concept than as a category with specific definitions, and our producers are representative of the complicated spectrum that defines "natural".
The ever-changing selection of wines is curated by owner Brian Patterson, a 20-year veteran of the wine business, as well as his wife Jennifer. In the past, Black Sheep Lisboa has also showcased a terroir-driven spirit program. Our spirits focus on treasures not typically found in other bars or shops. Also on offer are bottled negronis as well as locally made kombucha. We are always looking to add new, unique and delicious products, so follow us on Instagram to stay up-to-date!
Often at the shop is Bear the dog, aka The Beartender. He serves as general manager and runs a tight ship.
