Description
What am I: Penhó Carmin Rose
Penhó Wines are garagist wines produced from grapes grown at Quinta de Penhó. The Quinta is located Northern Portugal. The family vineyard is currently being converted to organic, and the wine is produced as naturally as possible. They have created unique natural wines with very low sulfite levels using minimal intervention.
Penhó Carmin Rose wine is a dark rose produced using white Trajadura grapes macerated on red Vinhão skins. It is a deep dark colored wine with a strong aroma. It is a fruity wine, with aromas of red currant, strawberry, apple, and peach. It has light tannins, and a pleasant acidity that is very fresh on the palate.
Every wine is made with two days of maceration before pressing, fermented only using indigenous yeasts. After pressing they remain over the lees with no racking, or bâttonage. No filtration, stabilization, or clarification is carried out. No additional products are used to correct or alter the wine. Everything else varies from wine to wine, but Penhó takes pride in all of its wines. They strive to improve them every year, starting in the vineyard, with their care of the vines.
