Description
What am I: Quinta do Romeu Reserva Tinto
Quinta do Romeu has belonged to the Menéres family since 1874, and is currently in the hands of the 5th generation. The vineyards, olive groves, cork trees, and two streams coexist in Romeu intertwined in a natural way, forming a living mosaic.
They grow 25 hectares of vineyards that are the northernmost in the demarcated Douro region. Although with the robust character of the Douro, they have the elegance and freshness of this unique place.
Romeu has a great dedication to the quality of the grape and, in the cellar, everything happens with a minimum of interference. Red fermentations are made in granite presses, indigenous yeasts, reduced amounts of SO2 used, and wine ages in mostly used barrels. All agriculture at Quinta do Romeu is certified organic. In 2012 the farm was converted to biodynamics. In Romeu, nothing is flat- neither the landscape, nor the climate, nor the people… nor the aromas!
Quinta do Romeu Reserva Tinto red wine is a blend of traditional Douro grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Sousão. Intense red ruby in color, it is young and intense, complex and elegant. Aromas are floral (orange blossom, violets) and red berry (wild strawberries, gooseberries, and raspberries), and pine forest with light notes of spices and toast.
This wine launches a soft and silky attack with a medium body. Fine structure is supported by well-present tannins and bright acidity, engaged by excellent fruit affording a prolonged finish. Floral and balmy notes stand out in the mouth conferring elegance with a fresh result.
