What am I: Bago de Touriga is an independent collaboration between two great Douro winemakers, Luis Soares Duarte and João Roseira. Luis Soares Duarte has worked on several projects in the Douro and is a well-known expert enologist in the region. João Roseira represents the current generation at Quinta do Infintado, an esteemed Douro producer of Port and dry table wine, which now offers several certified organic references. João is also the founder of Simplesmente Vinho, the most important wine fair in Portugal for small and low-intervention wine producers.
Bago de Touriga produces wine under the brand name Gouvyas, and the wines have become known for impressive freshness, the use of old, interesting grape varietals, and the discovery of special and old-vine vineyards.
Bago de Touriga Gouvyas Clarete 2016 is an evocative blend of red and white grapes from old vineyards. The wine has a nose of wild strawberry with hints of spice and just a dash of chalky minerality. The palate is true to the nose with wild red berries, dried cherry, spice, and a dash of mouth-watering salinity.
