What am I: Adega Artesanal is located in the Douro region of Portugal, on the route to São João da Pesqueira. It is here in a gently terraced valley where Hugo Oliveira e Silva grows the majority of the grapes for his wines.
The grapes used in this red wine are hand-harvested and foot trodden with their stems in granite lagar. At the end of fermentation, the wine is aged in French oak for 24 months before bottling.
With a deep purple color, this wine has aromas of ripe plum, raspberry, violet, mint, cassis, and coffee. On the palate, the wine is smooth, with fresh and balanced acidity, well-rounded tannins, and a long and persistent finish.
