Mateus Nicolau Almeida / Trans-Douro Express Cima Corgo 2018

We have run out of stock for this item.

What am I: Mateus is the fifth generation of the Nicolau de Almeida family to produce wine in the Douro. Together with his wife, Teresa Ameztoy, they work in a winery they call Adega do Sável (Alosa Alosa), named for the fish that traveled the Douro River from the Atlantic Ocean, today an impossible reality due to the construction of the dams.

In this winery, we are introduced to different perspectives and approaches to vineyards and wine, based on organic and biodynamic agriculture. With the Trans Douro Express wine, the winemakers seek to express the climatic characteristics of each sub-region of the Douro: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo, and Douro Superior. The Hermits are white wines from the Rabigato variety that are distinguished by different characteristics of the soil of origin. The Curral Teles group of wines are the result of different winemaking techniques. All of this is made in an underground cellar dug into the shale and creates an unusual aesthetic where nature and man meet.

TRANS DOURO EXPRESS is an exploratory journey through the Douro through a set of three wines that seek to express the characteristics of its origin. We are pleased to present to you Mateus Nicolau Almeida / Trans-Douro Express Cima Corgo 2018 is the region of the Douro Valley most proximal to the sea and therefore with the coolest and most marine-influenced weather. This is a fresh red wine, with higher acid, and more firm tannins than the Cima Corgo.
