What am I: Former Lisbon-area residents Fernanda Rodrigues and Jorge Cardoso sought the perfect site to create an organic utopia and found it in the rolling hills of the Serra D’Ossa outside of the extraordinary medieval hilltop fortress of Monsaraz.
There, on a beautiful and ancient old farm, they recuperated an old vineyard and set it on a direct course for organic certification. Outeiros Altos was the first herdade, or estate, in the Alentejo to be fully certified as organic. The wines produced here are also certified organic.
Planting the traditional grapes of the Alentejo, they set about to create a vineyard that can exist in harmony with the surrounding mountains and Mediterranean forest. Their home on the property is built upon foundations that are hundreds of years old, and the cellar is built entirely from stones found on the property.
Outeiros Altos Colheita Tinto is a big red Alentejo wine with flavors to match. Ruby color with violet tones, and with an embracing aroma of ripened fruit, herbs, spices, and hints of black pepper. The palate has wild fruits with blackberries and smoky hints. This wine is elegant and balanced and has the tannins to back it up. It is a versatile wine at the table.
These wines are certified bio and vegan.
