What am I: What started as a thesis project for three friends attending enology school together has become one of the most exciting natural wine projects in Portugal. Vinhos Aparte brings a punk-rock/graffiti artist aesthetic to their winemaking, and it shows in their whimsical, fresh, fruity, and oh-so-funky wines. They may be grape-mad explorers in wine-based fun and craziness, but they are dead serious when it comes to making extraordinary wine.
Vinhos Aparte Branco is a classic Lisbon blend of 66% Fernão Pires and 33% Arinto. The grapes were spontaneously fermented in separate varietal batches with skin contact. The Fernão Pires was aged for 16-months in used barrels, while the Arinto was aged in stainless steel. Once blended together, they yield an expressive, palate-filling example of Atlantic-influenced Portuguese white wine. The wine has more texture, and is more refined than their entry-level Superavit, and displays more nuance and roundness of palate due to the time the Fernão Pires spends in oak barrels. A delicious and classic Lisbon white, this wine is ideal for grilled seafood or chicken, Portuguese style seafood rice, and many other white wine-friendly dishes. This wine is unfiltered.
